Most people who know me know that i make my living as a waiter. Working 40plus hours/week in a restaurant doesn’t leave me with much time (or energy) to spend on my artwork. So, when I am inspired to draw/paint, I always go back to images I find the most enjoyable-mainly portraits, sometimes stillifes and landscapes. I rarely stick to one theme and often work on several pieces at the same time. I work mostly on paper in oil pastel combined with acrylic paint, recently adding pieces to my collage. Over the past seven years. I’ve accumulated countless pieces of paper containing lists of things to do, notes and numbers. The numbers are a sort of “running tally” of tips made on a given day at work. Since I’ve saved so many of these lists, I decided to begin incorporating them into some portraits. Part of the writing is revealed, part of it is hidden. In either case, I think the addition of the collage adds texture to the piece.
